Corporate / Entertainment Lawyer, 4-5 Years
Entertainment & Media Focus: 4–5 years post-call Associate Lawyer with corporate/ commercial experience and interest in entertainment law
Position: Permanent, Full-Time
Location: Downtown, Toronto, Ontario (4 days in-office)
Compensation: We offer a generous compensation and benefits package. This is a new position. We do not use AI-based tools to assist in the screening, assessment, or selection of applicants for this role.
We are a growing entertainment-focused law practice based in Toronto, advising clients in the entertainment, media, and creative industries across Canada and internationally.
We are seeking a 4-5 year of call Associate Lawyer with a Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited institution and be a member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario to support the firm’s practice on matters involving clients in the entertainment, media and related industries. The role requires strong transactional capability, exceptional drafting skills, and the ability to manage a high volume of concurrent files for clients.
Key Responsibilities
1. Day To Day Responsibilities
- Provide corporate and transactional support for film, television, digital media, music and related entertainment projects.
- Draft, review, and negotiate a broad range of agreements, including:
- Production agreements
- Option and purchase agreements
- Talent and key creative production agreements
- Licensing and distribution agreements
- Co-production and shareholder agreements
- Asset and share purchase agreements
- Confidentiality and non-disclosure agreements
- Conduct and manage due diligence processes.
- Assist with mergers, acquisitions and strategic transactions.
2. Client Management & File Oversight
- Manage several active client files simultaneously.
- Maintain organized file tracking and meet strict deadlines.
- Communicate effectively with clients, opposing counsel and advisors.
- Identify risks and escalate material issues to senior counsel as appropriate.
3. Research and Risk Assessment
- Conduct legal research on corporate, commercial and intellectual property related matters.
- Identify legal and practical risks within documents and client fact situations.
- Propose commercially practical solutions aligned with client objectives.
